The Big Move!

Yesterday Jeff Stones and I said goodbye to the home where we founded and ran the hub of Chain Reaction Ministries for over 10 years. From our humble beginnings of answering the call of an assistance ministry in old Spring Branch in Houston, to the expansion to three other cities, we had called Memorial Drive Christian Church in Bunker Hill home. The church was sold, and the new owners allowed us to operated for a year while them made capital improvements around us. For that we are grateful. It allowed us to have continuity in ministry while the church underwent a rebirth.

So we did to! We bought a 20' shipping container, build a frame for our slatwall to hang wheels, and moved all the shelving and parts. Our new home is at 1809 Hollister St., new home of Open Door Christian Church, in old Spring Branch! We will be resuming our monthly workdays in October, along with a needed ReCycle Day where we ask the community to donate unwanted bicycles.

Things will look a little different. We won't accept daily drop offs of donations. We will be hauling bikes in an out on each workday (because obviously the container won't hold any). But we will be continuing the ministry and our mission - providing basic transportation to folks needing them in order to get to work and access to good and services. "Transportation For All."

If you have read all of this, you may be asking "How can I serve? How can I donate?" You can still donate at www.chainreactionbikes.org. You can also email us through the website with a request to donate bikes and parts. We will do our best to get to you, but the easiest way is to see on a Saturday at our new location when we have a workday. We will be posting a schedule of workdays soon. We also maintain our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ChainReactionMinistries.

From all of us at Chain Reaction Ministries, we thank you for your ongoing support, prayers, donations, and stories of the simple gift of a bicycle. Ride On!

Port Neighbors in Action Raffle

Our community ministry partners come from all over the place. Bike Houston connected us with a request for a few kids bikes to support a community event hosted by the Port Neighbors in Action organization. They are a community focused organization providing programs for families in the Port of Houston area. The kids bikes were raffled off and as you can see from the pictures, much joy followed. Ride on my friends.

Everybody wins!

(From our partners at the WorkFaith Connection)

Today the most awesome thing happened.

On Saturday at the Houston Money Week Event one of our graduates, Jerry Class 75 from Travis, won the raffle of the bike Regions Bank donated to our Quadrant. The bike however, was still in the box unassembled.

Since Monday Jim McCaskill from Junior Achievement has been trying to work with Jerry to get him the bike. The arrangement came down to meeting Jerry at Lakewood Church today to pass on the bike.

God so moved Jim’s heart when he realized there would be no way for Jerry to transport and assemble the bike, to take him to Academy and purchase him an assembled bike. (See attached photo). How amazing is that!!

Jim brought the donated bike to Dacoma and we put it in storage. I spoke with our Quadrant lead, Courtney Taylor, and she agreed that we should donate the bike to Chain Reaction Ministries. They reach so many Houstonians that need transportation to and from work, and would have the manpower to assemble the bike.

This was a win win day for everyone. Jim felt moved that this bike was for “someone”, and Chain Reaction Ministries is just the place for “someone” to receive it. Jerry has a bike to make his transportation easier. And I have such a warmness in my heart watching God move so lovingly through so many people to make all this fit together.

Thank you Jim for your kindness. Thank you Courtney for your vision.

 In Christ,

Dametria
